Multiplayer Mode Development Update

The Multiplayer mode is being delayed for some time, and here’s a full explanation of why.

Developing Multiplayer has turned out to be much more difficult than expected. It’s not just about adding a new button or mode—it requires building a real-time system where players can connect, interact, and play in sync. That kind of system needs a solid structure, and figuring out where to start has been one of the hardest parts.

The plan is to use Firebase as the server for lobbies and player communication. While Firebase is a powerful tool, using it for real-time multiplayer involves handling connections, data syncing, security rules, and performance considerations. This is still a learning process, and making sure everything is safe and reliable before releasing it is important.

There’s also the issue of version differences. While working on the Multiplayer build in version 1.7.0, some other major features were developed in version 1.6.3, including the automated leaderboard and a batch of 1,000 new trivia questions. These features weren’t added to the Multiplayer code yet, which was a mistake in hindsight. Now extra time has to be spent merging and testing those features with the Multiplayer systems, to make sure nothing breaks.

Because of these challenges, the release of Multiplayer will happen sometime between version 1.7.0+ and 2.0.0+. It will be treated as a major update, and it won’t be rushed. Stability, compatibility with existing features, and a smooth experience all need to be guaranteed before release.

This is not something that can be expected to arrive this week or early on. Once the update is ready, a full announcement will be made.
